Usage limits & billing
What's included in the Free plan (20/month)?
Web Classify Free includes 20 classifications per month with CA, US, and CN codes, dashboard catalog sync, and CSV import/export within plan limits. No credit card required. When you reach 20, you'll see a clear upgrade prompt — the app does not crash or delete your catalog.
What are the paid Web Classify quotas?
Starter is $19/month for 250 classifications, Growth is $49/month for 2,500, and Pro is $99/month for 10,000. Annual billing is available on the billing page. Paid Web Classify plans use Stripe Checkout (separate from Shopify App Store Managed Pricing).
What happens when I hit my monthly limit?
Classification pauses with a polite upgrade or payment message. Your products, prior codes, and exports stay available. Open Billing to upgrade — paid quota unlocks as soon as payment confirms. You can also wait for your monthly reset.
Is Web Classify billing the same as the Shopify app?
No. The Shopify App Store uses Shopify Managed Pricing (charged on your Shopify invoice). Standalone Web Classify at j-stars.ca/web uses Stripe for Free upgrades. Marketing-site Checkout on j-stars.ca is also Stripe, but separate from the in-app /web billing page. Quotas marketed across channels stay aligned: Free 20 · Starter 250 · Growth 2,500 · Pro 10,000.
Why is there a 500-row CSV batch limit?
Each CSV import accepts up to 500 data rows so batches stay reliable. Larger enterprise catalogs can be onboarded with help from support@j-stars.ca. Split big files into multiple batches under the limit, or contact us for custom onboarding.
Why is my high-volume batch under review?
Very large or high-volume imports may need a quick admin check before they run. You'll see a pending-review message and receive an email when unlocked. This protects shared capacity — it is not a crash. Email support@j-stars.ca if you need it expedited.
Why was I asked to slow down?
Web Classify limits how many classifications can run at once per workspace so everyone stays responsive. Wait a few seconds and retry — your progress is safe. Sustained catalog work is best done via CSV import in reasonable batches.
Will I get a warning before I run out?
Yes. When you approach your monthly threshold (about 80% used, or only a couple of classifications left — for Free, that looks like “18 of 20”), a banner appears on the dashboard and import pages so you can upgrade before a pause.
Troubleshooting
Why is classification paused?
Common reasons: monthly quota reached, unpaid paid plan (payment required), temporary maintenance, rate limiting, or a high-volume batch awaiting approval. The on-screen panel explains which case applies and links to Billing or support. Your catalog is not deleted.
What does Needs Info / [REQ] mean?
[REQ] (Needs Info) means we need one more product fact — such as material, construction, or gender — before a filing-ready code can be confirmed. Open the product, answer the question, and classify again. Pending ([PND]) means work is still in progress; completed rows show a clear status once codes are ready.
How do I keep working after I upgrade?
After Stripe confirms payment, refresh the dashboard if quotas look unchanged for a few seconds. Then continue classifying, re-run Import for remaining CSV rows, or open Export to download broker-ready CSVs. Prior results stay in your catalog — no re-sync from scratch is required.
I'm having trouble with passwordless sign-in
Web Classify uses an 8-digit email code (no password). If the code is slow, wait 1–2 minutes, check spam, then use Resend. Temporary sign-in interruptions do not erase your account or catalog. Details: FAQ on j-stars.ca (/faq/#web-sign-in) or email support@j-stars.ca.
I see a temporary maintenance message
Classification can pause briefly for scheduled engine maintenance. Try again shortly. If it persists, email support@j-stars.ca — your saved products and codes remain secure.
Accuracy & GRI
What is GRI reasoning?
GRI stands for General Rules of Interpretation — the official WCO framework that governs how every product worldwide is classified. After each classification, you can see which rules were applied and why, so the reasoning is visible and auditable. That paper trail is useful if customs ever questions a code.
Do you guarantee classification accuracy?
No — the classifier is a helpful starting point, not a guarantee. Accuracy is typically strong for common e-commerce products, but legal responsibility for correct customs declarations always rests with the importer or exporter. For high-value shipments, regulated goods, or anything complex, verify with a licensed customs broker.
Shopify Sync
How do HS codes sync with Shopify?
In the Shopify App Store app, codes save to your Shopify product metafields under the trade namespace (Canadian, US, and related fields). Shopify Markets and many duty apps read those standard metafields. Standalone Web Classify at j-stars.ca/web keeps your catalog in the Web Classify workspace with broker-ready CSV export — it does not replace Shopify Admin metafield writes unless you also use the Shopify app.
Does this work with Shopify's duty calculator?
Yes for the Shopify app — Shopify Markets reads HS codes from the standard product metafields we write. Classify your products in the app first, and Markets can use those codes for duties at checkout. Web Classify exports help brokers and ops; use the Shopify app when you need metafield sync for Markets.
Getting started
How is Instant HS Lookup different from Web Classify?
Instant HS Lookup on j-stars.ca is a public single-product check. Web Classify (this app) is your signed-in workspace for catalog import, multi-region codes, Customs Audit, and broker-ready CSV export under your monthly plan quota.
How do I get help?
Email support@j-stars.ca — we respond within one business day. For plan upgrades use Billing in this app. For Shopify App Store billing questions, manage charges in Shopify Admin → Settings → Billing.
